Class Parents

Want to be a Class Parent and/or Class Captain?

If you would like to be a Class Parent or Class Captain for your child’s class, please go to and fill out the form to become a member of the Bloomingdale PTA and register to become either a Class Parent and/or Class Captain.

The Deadline for registration is Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 6:00pm.

In order to participate as a Class Parent, you must be a current paid PTA member and either attend at least 2 general membership meetings or actively volunteer for 2 committees.  If you did not adhere to these rules in the 2014/2015 school year, you will not be eligible for the role of Class Captain, and your name will be moved to the bottom of the list at the lottery drawing for Class Parent.

If you decide to place your name in the lottery, understand that you are agreeing to adhere to the responsibilities and guidelines defined in the PTA handbook.  The guidelines are available for view online and a copy is available at all general PTA meetings.  Please review the rules carefully before submitting your name.  Please note that this year both parents can sign up to be class parents or captain but only the first parent drawn will be eligible for that class.

The random drawing of names will take place at 5:30PM before the first meeting, which is at 7:00pm on Wednesday September 30, 2015.  You are not required to attend the drawing.  Those whose names are drawn will be notified by email.

The mandatory class parent meeting will be held at 7:00PM on October 7, 2015 in the Multi-purpose room at Walter T Bergen.

If you have a conflict and cannot attend this meeting, you must notify us in advance.  If you need help with registration, please email Kathy Mydosh at

Thank you for volunteering your time!

Class Parent FAQ

As Captain, can I go to any/all the parties?

NO.  Just the 2 parents from your class assigned to that party should plan and attend the party.

My teacher contacted Captain about chaperones for the field trip.  She needs 3.  Who gets to go?

Captain should contact CP #2 and #3 to see if they can go. If either/both can’t, Captain should move on the CP#4, then alternate 1 and so on until 3 chaperones are found.

There’s a second field trip and 4 chaperones are needed.  Who gets to go?

Captain should contact CP in the order they were selected to see if they can attend. CP #2, then CP #3, #4, Alt 1, Alt 2.  (and into Volunteers if necessary)

What do the Volunteers do?

Since the Volunteers usually do not get to participate in parties or field trips, they should be contacted first if the teachers need help in the classroom with other activities (primarily in lower grades).  Examples include the 100th day celebration, special “art” projects, International Day, etc…

Who plans the End of Year party?

With the teacher’s ok, generally any/all class parents, alternates and volunteers are invited to attend the End of Year party and can be involved in planning.
