Class Captain Step by Step Guide for WTB

Class Parents provide for 5 school wide events during the school year:

  • Halloween Party (5th/6th) and Halloween Snacks (7th/8th)
  • Holiday Lunch
  • Valentine’s Day Sundaes
  • Testing Treats
  • End of Year

Step  1

Attend PTA Class Parent Meeting

Step 2

School Captain contacts principal regarding dates and time of events, testing dates and all field trips, if known.  Contacts ALL Class Captains in the school with this information.

Class Captain contacts the Teacher for the number of students in the class.  Also, request that the teacher contact you when the date of the class trip is known and how many chaperones can attend.  Once chaperone information is known, contact the other class parents to see who is interested and available for chaperoning.  Not everyone may be afforded the opportunity to chaperone and you should work down the list in the order they were selected by the lottery.

Step 3 Class Captain makes copies of PTA class party form to send home with each student to collect $10 to help defray the costs of the parties.  Send in enough copies of the form for each student in the class to be distributed through the backpacks.
Step 4 Class Captain collects the money and then sends in a single check to the PTA Treasurer (made out to Bloomingdale PTA).  This will be used to cover the costs for the school wide events.  The money will be distributed based on the type and nature of the events planned.
Step 5 For Halloween and Holiday Events, the School Captain and some of the Class Captains should meet with the Principal to discuss plans and ideas.  The captains should then contact Class Parents to arrange for volunteers to help in running the event, purchasing supplies, etc…  Class Parents may be asked for snack and/or drink donations, if needed.
Step 6 School Captain consults with Principal about Valentine’s Day sundaes, timing/distribution of snacks during testing and the End of Year (pizza) party.  Coordinates with Class Captains to arrange for volunteers from the Class Parents for supplies, etc…

Please Note:  Given the fact that students have a variety of teachers at WTB and that not all teachers have a homeroom, the PTA does not promote a Teacher Gift Collection.  Rather, the PTA sponsors a Teacher Appreciation Day at each school to recognize the hard work and dedication that our teachers provide to our children each year.
